Refugees in Europe

The video explains why refugees in Europe don't stay in their first country of arrival.

Read the following words and phrases and their definitions.
  • responsibility - something that you, a group of people, a country, etc. should do because it is morally right, legally required, etc.
  • regulation - an official rule or law that says how something should be done
  • collapse- to fail or stop working suddenly, to break down completely
  • cope - to be able to deal with problems and difficult situations and have solutions
  • refugee - someone who has been forced to leave a country because of war or for religious or political reasons
  • destitute- extremely poor and wanting
  • housing - the houses, apartments, etc., in which people live
  • host - to be the person, country, government, etc. that welcomes others and provides basic facilities
  • close off - to shut off for a period of time
  • allocate - to divide or distribute over different people, countries, etc.
  • in accordance with - in a way that agrees with or follows something, for example a rule, law or request
